Convention Tips & Tricks

With MCM Comic Con hastily approaching, it's time to iron your outfits and patch up those holes, it's convention time. As someone who has been to only four conventions in her whole life, I'd like to think I'm rather new to this! However, I've learnt some tips and tricks for making your time most delight!

Over the past year I've been to HyperJapan twice, Summer in the City once, MCM Comic Con (in London) once in October 2015. That's a whole lot of walking around, bumping into random strangers and spending way, way too much money. Although these tips can apply to almost EVERY convention, today I'm specifically talking about Comic Con.

Without further ado, let's get on with it...

DO remember to preplan stuff in advance.
The amount of times I've woken up at 11am when the convention doors opened at 10am is unbelievable, and its not just me (*cough* Serenna *cough* HyperJapan *cough*). The day before is just as important as the day of the convention. Make sure you get an early dinner, have a shower or a bath, relax and make sure everything is ready for the next day.
Got your tickets printed of?
Set your alarms?
Reminded your friend to print off tickets and set their alarms?

DON'T expect to just stroll in without any waiting around.
There's a high chance you'll be waiting in a few queues before you get anywhere. There's a lot of people in a very small space, it gets very crowded and everyone's in the same boat (or convention centre...). Just relax, bring a snack and some water, may as well enjoy it and make some friends with the people around you.

DO come prepared.
As I previously mentioned, if you don't come prepared, you may find yourself feeling a little sick, feeling very tired and not enjoying the convention to it's full capacity.
If you're like me and suffer the monthly bleed, probably best to check when you're due to battle your body, being prepared comes in handy.
I suggest packing:
- Paracetamol
- Plasters
- Water
- A snack

DON'T take your card.
That's right, if you're like me and have very little money, it's very tempting to spend all of it on Japanese food rather than bread for the next couple of months. Take my advice, budget how much money you're allowed to spend, then take that money out before you go.

And finally
DO enjoy yourself.
You've paid money to attend this convention. So take photographs, talk to people and enjoy yourself! Embrace everything this culture has to offer.

  1. Nice post! I would recommend wearing layers so when it gets stuffy you can just take it off... oh and deodorant! There is always a lot of bad BO going around
