Veganuary #2 | Why?
Hello my little dreamers!
Welcome back to another blog post, as you can tell from the title, this is the second Veganuary post of January, and I thought I'd tell you why I went Vegan!
But firstly, I just wanted to tell you all, a couple of days ago I had my first Taco Bell as a vegan. I'm going to go into it more in a video maybe if you're all interested, but oh my gosh it was delicious. I got the Crunchwrap Supreme, changed the meat for refried beans, and got rid of cheese sauce and sour cream sauce for guacamole. Adding in some of the hot sauce sachets too to give it that kick, and it was amazing!

First time eating out as a vegan was a success!
(Well... If you ignore the part where the waitress ignored me and I ended up with cheese first time round...)
Here's a bit of a back story, so back when I was sixteen I decided to go Vegetarian, and I was for about two years. However, after moving to university last year, and acquiring a part time job where I was on my feet six to eight hours a day, I started to get ill. I thought, well, I'm not eating meat so maybe I'm loosing out because of it. So I started eating meat again. Fast forward a year, I decided why not, let’s do Veganuary.
Originally, when on the Underground, whilst with my boyfriend we spotted a advert for Veganuary, and surprisingly he suggested it. However, after careful consideration, Arran decided he could not live without beef just yet. But I decided to give it a go.
Now, I’ve heard horror stories of people going vegan and falling ill or becoming malnourished, so I did what any student does best, research. I subscribed to many vegan YouTubers such as Vegan Voyager (Laura), Keira Rose and Caitlyn Shoemaker.
I watched Cowspiracy which informed me of the economical side animal agriculture has, and fair warning, it’s not too bad, but there’s some upsetting images.
I’ve learnt a lot in the process of going vegan, and I thought I’d tell you a bit about the dairy and egg industry.
So, dairy. Now, this I truly find disgusting. I’m sure many of you know, milk comes from cows, pretty similar that come from women. However, cows only produce milk when they’re pregnant. These cows are forced to be pregnant until they give up, they don’t get to see their babies, because their milk ends up in shops for you to buy.
But let’s just imagine. You are impregnanted, you have you’re milk pumped out of you, then when you give birth, you’re child is ripped away from you. If it’s girl, it has the same fate as you, if it’s a boy, it gets raised for veal.
You know that childhood fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk? They could have sorted out the lack of him by getting Daisy a boyfriend.
But now, eggs! So, eggs, I don’t feel as bad as I do with milk, but it’s still not good. Poor chickens have their wings and beaks clipped, and are kept in cramped, uncomfortable conditions.
Baby chicks are sorted before having the chance to grow. Girls get to live, however boys get thrown in the blender.
It’s horrible. It’s a horrible, horrible industry. This is why I’m now a vegan.
It's not too late to join Veganuary, make a pledge to be vegan for thirty days and join me on this adventure!
