Internet Connection
Growing up, as a young child and teenager, I've always found it hard maintaining a friendship, whether that's because of who I am (a tea drinking, Disney freak with an obsession for cute things), or who they are (a wonderful human being), or circumstances we're put against (e.g. moving to a different school). However, through this physical world of nightmares and boundaries, I've always felt a special connection to those whom my only way of staying in contact is through the screens.
Back in 2013, when I first started posting videos on YouTube calling myself a "vlogger", I found something. Now, this something was and is a very special something, it's a something that I hold very close to my heart. Back in 2013, when I first started vlogging, I found an internet connection.
I found friendship.
In the most absurd places, on the internet. Who knew that ranting about Disney and my life on the internet would lead me to finding such glorious friendships. When I was younger, I was told "don't let anyone know your name online, use a fake one", understandably the generation before us was curious and scared of this new technology we had been given, but looking back, if I had really followed their advice, who would I be now?
Truth be told, the community which was once rich with friendships and gatherings galore, did turn sour. YouTube turned into a fame seeking community, which cared only for the rising numbers of subscribers and likes, who cared little for their adoring admirers. The community seemed broken, lost perhaps...
Then, I idea hit me.
As a young child, I had always loved the concept of "pen-pals" and sending friends from far off places gifts and memories that I had collected, and so I thought to myself and referred to my younger self, what if? What if I create a projected called Internet Connection, where we send each other gifts and memories we have collected for them, to reconnect the friendship values of what was a wonderful community?
Here it is, Internet Connection, a group of nine vloggers, joined together to show that the YouTube Community still values friendship above all else.
Want to see for yourself? Well it's your lucky day! A key factor of Internet Connection is that we each open our parcels from each other online, in front of the camera, to share the joy with you all. They may not all be up all at once, but in the end they will all be in a playlist (the link will be left below) for you all to see.
Disney has taught me that friendship is far too important to throw away, which is why I want to bring it back to the YouTube Community, a community which has introduced me to so many wonderful souls and given me a lifetime of friendship.
