Disney CEP Acceptance Story

Well, hi-hey-hello there friends!

Today I thought that I'd reflect on my own personal journey, with specific reflection on my acceptance story. I would like to think mine is a special one, I hope you all think the same.

Before I came to university, I gave myself two goals; to work for Lush and Disney. Lush I managed to do within the first month of living in London ✅Disney, on the other hand, took a little bit of time.

I applied for multiple positions at various Disney Stores, coming close once in February 2016, however, tripping at the final hurdle. When the time came, I applied for the Cultural Exchange Program that would take place in summer 2017. Fair to say, as you all know, that did not go to plan sadly.

During my time at university, I worked as a cleaner, as a sales assistant, as a theme park host, and again as a ride host at a theme park. All this together prepared me for my second attempt, and last chance, to be a Walt Disney World Cast Member on the CEP.

I applied on 5th July 2017 for the following program in summer 2018. At this time I was watching all my friends I had made on the program and had known in real life, enjoy their time in Florida. It was heartbreaking, I just wanted to be there with them!

I heard back from YummyJobs on 18th August, inviting me to another Pre-Screen which would be held on Thursday 28th September, again in their offices in Epping. We were told during the presentation at the interview that we would hear back no later than 11th October, however, I heard back on the 9th October with big bold letters spelling CONGRATULATIONS!

I had made it through to the final interviews.

After the initial email, we then got two separate ones, one asking us to book a slot and the other asking us to fill in a role checklist. I chose the first day of interviews, Tuesday 31st October, and the second slot of the day at 10:30AM.

Again we were told that the latest we'd hear back from was the 5th January, which seemed ages to wait, however, it was not the case.

In programs prior to ours, they had sent out congratulation emails to the applicants in alphabetical order around the third week of December. Ours however was a different story.

On the 28th November, emailings started rolling out. At first, it appeared random, then it sunk it they were being announced by role. First came Custodial, then Quick Service and Full Service Food and Beverages, then Lifeguarding, Merchandise, Costuming... I stayed awake, refreshing my emails all night, hoping I'd be lucky.

Soon later a week went by, nothing.

It was slowly approaching my twenty-first birthday, and I started getting a feeling, you know the ones that build in your stomach and give you butterflies. Yeah that.

For many days I heard nothing.

I awoke on my 21st Birthday in a rush, my parents saying they were five minutes away from university, and I had just woken up. As if instinct, I reached for my laptop, and there it was.

Of course if you want to see my reaction, just head on over to my YouTube Channel and I promise you won't be disappointed.

But there, that was my acceptance story. Very tense, very insane. The best birthday gift I could have been given.

I will catch you all next week for another lil post!
