Disney CEP Application Advice | Wanna know how YOU can work in Disney World?!

Well, hi-hey-hello there friends! ✨

Welcome to my little corner of the internet, my name is Ellen and in the summer of 2018, I'll be working in Walt Disney World, Florida as an Internation College Program Participant! And here's my advice on how you can do the same...

First of all, greetings! You're doing the first thing in order to succeed in your application; some research! Now before we begin with the advice, here are some important facts for some of you who have no clue about the program. This will vary from year to year but here's what you need to know!

  • The Disney CEP takes place every summer, and you apply through a lovely company called YummyJobs who are run by a bunch of lovely people who have been on numerous of the programs they run.
  • If your application is successful there will be two interview stages you need to be aware of. Both take place in London. The first is known as the Pre-Screen and its very similar to a group interview setting with a presentation at the start. The second takes place at the Disney HQ in Hammersmith with Cast Members who work in the parks.
  • Applications open around July and will close around early September with the Pre-Screen at the end of September, and Final Interviews beginning around Halloween.
As I am writing this, the 2019 applications have been announced to open on 11th July 2018, so put that date in your diaries! While you're waiting for applications to open here's a list of everything you will need when applying for this program...

  • An up-to-date CV/resume.
  • A cover letter.
  • Answers to the questions they ask during the application.
  • A smiley passport style photo for your account.
CV/Resume Advice

If there is one tip I can give you all for your CV/Resume, it would be tailor it! If you're like me and have had a different job every single year since you were sixteen, its time to pick and choose your favourites and the ones you think will make you stand out!

For me, I picked my most recent job, as I was working in a theme park, and discussed the things I was required to do. I also picked Lush, where I worked as a Sales Assistant, as they have wonderful recognition for guest service.

I also put down awards and skills I've achieved. For awards, I put down how I was nominated for society committee member of the year from my Students Union. As for skills, I put down that I was learning Japanese.

Cover Letter

The cover letter is your time to shine!

I set my letter up in three sections: Who am I? Where do I want to be? How do I intend to get there? And I recommend you all do the same!

I began mine by introducing the program, showing that I've done my research, before telling them a bit about myself, where I go to university and what I study.

I then go onto saying about why I want to do the program, and pro-tip: avoid talking about how much you love Disney, they know you love Disney, so focus on travel and cultural excitement!

I finalise my cover letter by discussing my experience, which they can find on my CV/Resume, and relating it to how my work ethics will benefit the company, reminding and ensuring them that if they give me this opportunity, I won't let them down!

Answers

They usually ask two main questions, then some other little ones!

Q1: Why do you value culture and exchange?
In my answer, I discussed how growing up in a small English town I never really had an interaction from other cultures, except from holidays and especially when I moved to London to study Media, Culture and Identity. I discussed how I regretted not applying for a study-abroad program whilst at university, as I was in my final year, and how living with people from Sweden and the USA made me wish I had explored a new culture!

Q2: What's your motivation for the program?
In my answer, I told a little story about Disney pulled me about a depression when I felt like I wouldn't achieve anything. I reflected on how the program has everything I seek for a job; to work for Disney, to travel America and to work in a theme parks in a guest service role.

Photo

This is nothing to worry about... Take it from me who accidentally uploaded the same photograph from the previous year, when my hair was A LOT shorter... They'll ask you to bring in another one anyway so they can pin it to your application. But here was the one I used!

Having applied for the program twice, being rejected once and successful a second time, I have plenty to say on how to ace your application (and also how to fudge it up a lil bit...) so if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, tweet me or message me on Instagram!

Thank you all for taking your time to read this little help guide! I'll be posting some more advice soon, so make sure to go and follow me on Bloglovin'! And while you're at it, go subscribe on YouTube as I'll be posting some more videos soon!
